How Sarah Palin inspired 'mentally ill and totally unfit' vice president character in former advisor's new novel
By Tamara Abraham
Sarah Palin has inspired a 'mentally ill' and 'unprepared' vice president character in a book by a former advisor.
Nicolle Wallace worked for Mrs Palin in 2008 when she was John McCain's running mate in his Presidential campaign.
In a new interview, she described how her latest novel, It's Classified, tells the tale of a woman plucked from relative obscurity who is elected Vice President of the U.S.
She told Time Magazine how the idea for her lead character, Tara Meyers, was inspired by Mrs Palin.
'The idea of a mentally ill vice president who suffers in complete isolation was obviously sparked by the behaviors I witnessed by Sarah Palin,' she said.
'What if somebody who was ill-equipped for the office were to ascend to the presidency or vice presidency? What would they do? How long would it take for people to figure it out? I became consumed by this question.'
She said the former Alaska Governor was often 'withdrawn, uncommunicative and incapable of performing even the most basic tasks required of her job as McCain's running mate'.
