PYONGYANG, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. delegation arrived here Tuesday to assess the food situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The team was led by Robert King, U.S. special envoy for DPRK human rights, and Jon Brause, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) deputy assistant administrator for the office of foreign disaster assistance.

They did not answer any questions at the airport.

The delegation of the U.S. Department of State "arrived to consult humanitarian issues" between the DPRK and the United States, according to the official KCNA news agency.

The two U.S. officials will assess the DPRK's food needs during their five-day visit.
