PJ: From lashing out at every supposed slight to playing attack dog against President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on her reality TV show, Facebook, Twitter, and through her commentary on Fox News, Palin has maintained the spotlight in the US. Lately, however, influential conservative voices can be heard denouncing her prominence in the GOP. The chorus of negative attacks from the right against Palin came soon after the November mid-term elections when her endorsement of several tea party (fringe) candidates cost her party sought after Senate seats in Nevada and Delaware as well as angering the incumbent candidate in Alaska (who went on to win a write-in campaign to retain her seat). The rising chorus of anti-Palin Republican voices have steadily increased in volume especially after Palin's defensive "blood libel" video where she played her favourite role as media victim, this time with respect to the Tucson, Arizona shootings that left several people dead and others injured including Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords who is still recovering from a gun shot wound to the head.
What I find interesting is that many of those voices were quiet during her rise to political stardom, whispering their discontent at her lack of intellect and qualifications. Those quiet voices let their party ride in her wake as the base was enthused by her shallow rhetoric. Now those voices are trying to be heard in order to diminish Palin's star power and prevent her from gaining the Republican nomination for the 2012 Presidential race. But as they say, the toothpaste is out of the tube and it's not all that easy to put it back.
Daily Mail
Sarah Palin's popularity drops to an all-time low as doubts are cast over whether she will make a 2012 presidential bid
She was once the darling of the Republican party.
But it appears Sarah Palin's glory days could be over as a new poll has found that fewer then six in ten Republicans still hold her in a favourable light.
According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll, only 58 per cent of of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents think highly of her, down from a massive 88 per cent when she stood by John McCain's side in the 2008 presidential elections.
The new figures cast doubts as to whether or not Palin, who now works for Fox News, will run for president in 2012.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee holds 61 per cent of the vote, just above Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney at 60 percent.
PALIN'S FALL FROM GRACE
She is slightly ahead of one time House speaker Newt Gingrich who received 55 per cent of the favourability factor
But Palin’s unfavourable numbers are significantly higher than they are for any of these possible competitors with 37 per cent of all Republicans and GOP-leaning independents now holding a negative view of her, a new high.
Palin, who has been closely linked with the Tea Party, has always been a polarised figure with almost everyone holding views of her.
Only five per cent of leaned Republicans have not made up their minds about the 47-year-old while as many as one fifth have no opinion of Huckabee, Romney or Gingrich in the poll.
In contrast to Palin's drop, Romney has solidified his standing within the group with only 21 per cent of Republicans and GOP-leaning Republicans holding unfavourable views of him, down from 36 per cent in 2008.
Strong supporters of Palin have dropped to 26 per cent, which is an all-time new low for her.
Results were based on a telephone poll conducted from March 10 to 13, and included interviews with 414 self-identified Republicans and GOP-leaners.
Side notes:
Palin's Fall From Grace
Sarah Palin has been criticized about the Arizona shootings, with some feeling she should be held in some way responsible.
Many believed that suspect Jared Lee Loughner opened fire on a constituency meeting held by U.S. representative Gabrille Giffords after Palin marked crosshairs on a map of electoral districts where Democrats were facing re-election, including that of Giffords.
They also criticised the infamous line she posted on her Facebook page which said: 'Do not retreat! Instead - reload.'
Rather than stay silent, she posted a video on Facebook defending herself against 'blood libel' days after the massacre.
Her latest book, American by Heart, released in November 2010, was deemed more of a political manifesto with many criticising her pointed attack on Barack Obama, not just of his policies but of his personal life.
