The UK Weighs in on the New Congress

"But while these might be heady times for American politics, they are more problematic for the rest of the world – which needs to see the world's only super-power firing on all cylinders once more. America's economy remains in a fragile state, its national debt is colossal and its international standing and influence have been seriously impaired by the Iraq war and, to a lesser extent, Afghanistan. It is important, therefore, that the potential for Congressional gridlock is overcome. For the benefit of the people of America and of everyone else seeking sustained recovery in 2011, the focus should be on the economy, not populist grandstanding."
