BEIJING: Beijing on Thursday released a key defence policy document promising to build trust with its neighbours and expressed concern over an increase in "suspicion about China, interference and countering moves against it from the outside" .
"( China is pursuing) an effective way to maintain national security and development and safeguard regional peace and stability," the document said.
It voiced concern over moves to contain its power and the US attempts to enhance influence in the region. "Major powers are stepping up the realignment of their security and military strategies, accelerating military reform and vigorously developing new (military technologies).''
China reiterated its concern about fierce regional competition and an increasingly volatile security scenario . The document comes amid sharp Beijing-Tokyo differences over an island's ownership and apprehension over largescale Chinese investments in weapons modernisation program.
It comes days after the People's Liberation Army tested its integrated air defence capability. The tests that included surface-to-air missiles aimed at bringing compatibility among various missile systems.
"China will never seek hegemony or pursue expansionist policies,'' a defence ministry spokesman said. "China's armed forces adopt a peaceful and cooperative approach in participating in international military affairs."
