UK: Palin's mocking of the First Lady gets noticed

Telegraph

PJ: Sarah Palin's nastiness and hypocrisy does not go unnoticed outside of the US. She remains a curiosity as most people do not understand how such a person could rise to such prominence in US politics.

Sarah Palin mocks Michelle Obama's breastfeeding campaign
Sarah Palin has tried to revive her flagging fortunes as a presidential candidate by mocking Michelle Obama for promoting breastfeeding.

She said: "No wonder Michelle Obama is telling everybody you better breast feed your babies. I'm looking and say, 'Yeah, you better because the price of milk is so high right now'."

Mrs Palin, who as Governor of Alaska declared October 2007 "Breastfeeding Awareness Month", was joining forces with conservative critics who have accused the First Lady of trying to implement a nanny state by suggesting the breast pumps should be made tax deductible.

With Republican contenders for 2012 presidential nomination expected to begin declaring their intentions in the coming weeks, her barbed remarks served notice that she will also enter the fray.

"No one is more qualified, really to multitasking and the things you need to do as president than a woman, a mum," said the mother-of-five.

She went on to tout her experience as a mayor, head of Alaska's oil commission and governor, the job she left halfway through her term.
