Australia: Cheney: Palin pick a mistake

Dick Cheney says John McCain made a mistake picking Sarah Palin as his VP nominee

DICK Cheney says it was a mistake for Republican Senator John McCain to pick Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee.

The former Vice President told US ABC News that while he liked Ms Palin, she didn't pass the test of being ready to be president and that McCain's campaign didn't handle the vetting process well.

“I like Governor Palin. I’ve met her. I know her. She ... attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don’t think she passed that test … of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake,” he said.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney is expected to announce a running mate in August. He is widely expected to choose someone perceived as competent but safe.
